Inform, Engage, Change

Engineers and programmers have a critical role to play in the movement to Demand Your dotRights. Creating real change means motivating users to demand stronger privacy - but users won't rise up if they don't understand what's happening and how it affects them!

The Demand Your dotRights Campaign is calling on developers to join us in creating tools and resources to bring online privacy issues to life for the average Internet users. Simple applications like our Facebook quiz can give users the kind of direct exposure to issues of information control and online privacy that motivates them to seek change.

The ACLU is working with companies and other organizations to reform our nation’s outdated electronic privacy law and take a stand for privacy. But we need more tools that allow people to regain control of their personal information. And we need software developers who are up for a real challenge: building the tools that help ordinary users understand and protect their privacy in the world we live in.

To this end,

we recently honored several of the best submissions to our first Develop4Privacy Challenge at DEFCON 19.  We were delighted to receive many excellent submissions demonstrating a wide variety of approaches to developing privacy-enhancing tools.

Thank you for your support of the Develop4Privacy Challenge!
