Party Like It's 1986 at SXSW 2011
Maggie Mae's, 325 E 6th St, Austin TX
Sunday, March 13, 2011 from 9:00pm to midnight
In 1986 the Bangles were all the rage, Donkey Kong was a hot video game, mobile phones were bigger than your head, and the World Wide Web didn't even exist.
A lot has changed since then--but not electronic privacy law.
So we're teaming up with Google and the ACLU of Texas and heading to SXSW to Party Like It's 1986 and Demand Privacy Like It's 2011! It's an awesome 80s party to highlight how un-awesome it is that the Electronic Communications Privacy Act, the federal law that is supposed to be protecting our personal information, hasn't been updated since 1986--before the web even existed!
Come in your best '80s outfit to win a door prize, and then visit our '80s hair and makeup stations to complete your look before you dance to '80s tunes from Austin favorites Spazmatics and DJ Boris or just chill out in our retro video game room.
Privacy laws stuck in the digital dark ages aren’t good for consumers or for companies. So let’s break out the legwarmers and high tops, walkmans and mixtapes and Party Like It’s 1986 and Demand Privacy Like It’s 2011.
If you can’t join us at the party, we hope you will join us in pushing for an ECPA update by emailing Congress today.
It's time to demand a privacy upgrade. It's time to Demand Your dotRights!
